Maintaining the condition of your car

| January 6, 2012 | 0 Comments

Cars, like pretty much everything else these days, are expensive and major work on a car is also expensive. There is a lot you can do to maintain the value of your car, and to avoid large garage bills. Maintaining your car in good condition is also vital to your safety and to the general road worthiness of your vehicle.

There are a number of checks you should carry out on a regular basis – oil, water, anti-freeze and screen wash levels, also checks on brakes and all round lights and indicators. Keep your car clean, including underneath where mud and salt can build up and cause corrosion. In wet and muddy weather you will need to clean your windscreen, lights and number plates fairly often to maintain your visibility and the legality of your vehicle.

While cleaning, you can check for early signs of rust and any scratches or damage to paintwork and chips to the windscreen. These can then be dealt with before they become bigger problems. Keep the interior clean as well, this is important if you plan to sell your car at some point, and want the maximum value for it. Regular car servicing at a reputable garage is well worth the cost. It will keep your car running smoothly, cut down on wear and tear related damage, and provide an opportunity to identify and problems at an early stage.
